As if Google hadn't announced enough new stuff today, the company just released an update to its Maps app that brings offline map caching. We knew this was coming — Google announced the feature back at a mapping-focused event a few weeks ago — but there wasn't any word on when exactly it would go live. As we heard before, the new Maps app lets you select regions from more than 150 countries and save it for offline use. Users can save up to six maps of "large metro areas" and then use Maps offline to navigate your way. While Google did point out the "blue dot" which marks a user's location will still work (provided GPS is turned on), you unfortunately can't get any directions, search the map, or do turn-by-turn without a data connection. Still, any offline capability is better than none.
