15 things to know before 'The Dark Knight Rises'

New Delhi: Between two biggies - The Amazing Spider-Man and Ice Age 4 - The Dark Knight Rises directed by Christopher Nolan, is set to release on July 20 in India. This film will conclude the Batman trilogy.
#1. The filming of The Dark Knight Rises began in India. A remote town by the name of Mehrangarh, Jodhpur was chosen as the desolate landscape perfect for a prison scene. In an interview, actor Christian Bale said, "The locals thought we were nuts. We were out in 120-degree heat. I thought it was a great induction by fire into the whole thing. It was nice to mix it up and go to different places. It makes it an adventure."
#2. The running time of The Dark Knight Rises is 165 minutes, which could seem lengthy for a Hollywood film, that are usually between 120 to 130 minutes, but the Indian viewers should have no problem sitting tight as the length of an average Bollywood film is between two-and-a-half to three hours.

#3. Christian Bale as Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox reprise their roles from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight in the 2012's The Dark Knight Rises.
#4. The Dark Knight Rises takes on from The Dark Knight, only 8 years later...
#5. Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, and she constantly reprimands Batman and Gotham city as a whole, for their complacency. She will be seen riding the Batpod, Batman's bike in the film.
#6. Actor Christian Bale who plays Batman in The Dark Knight Rises said in an interview that the crowds shown in the film are real and not generated by computerised graphics. Bale praised his director Christopher Nolan saying that Nolan doesn't do too much of green screen and prefers to shoot with real stuff.
#7. Christopher Nolan reportedly chose Bane, played by Tom Hardy, in The Dark Knight Rises, so that the viewers would get to see a toe-to-toe fight in the last of the Batman trilogies. Bane is known to be one of Batman's toughest villains with physical strength and intellectual prowess of a demigod.
#8. According to reviews, it is slightly difficult to follow Bane's dialogues because of the mask that he wears. However, director Nolan didn't want to clear up the vocals as he wants the audience to really pay attention and watch the film again and again! Is that a new tact for intriguing your viewers?
#9. Christian Bale had reportedly said that he wouldn't return to play Batman in The Dark Knight Rises if the film even had a glimpse of Robin!
#10. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy and Marion Cotillard who play significant characters in the film The Dark Knight Rises were all seen together in the 2010 filmInception which was also directed by Christopher Nolan.
#11. The character Batman came after Superman. It was the success of Superman comics that prompted the publishers to come up with another superhero and in 1939, artist Bob Kane introduced us to Batman. But it was only Kane's co-writer, Bill Finger, an ex-shoe salesman, who improvised the costume to what we know now: the cowled mask and the scalloped cape.
#12. From comics to screen, Batman first appeared in a Television series titled Batman and Robin in 1949. Fifteen years later, an independent young artist Andy Warhol released Batman Dracula (1964) without the approval of the comic publisher. And then came Batman (1966), directed by Leslie H. Martinson.
#13. In the early 60s, Batman was also translated into a primetime TV show with a hip approach. The producer, William Dozier was impressed with a man's looks. This man was none other than Adam West, who played a suave agent in a Nestle Quick commercial!
#14. Before Iron Man and way more sophisticated that Spider-Man, Batman or billionaire Bruce Wayne is known for his hi-tech toys and vehicles.
The Batarang: A metal bat-shaped boomerang.
The Grapple Gun: A spear-tipped, spring-loaded projectile used as a hook trailer.
The Goo Gun: It fires up a gooey adhesive that disables anyone who comes in his way.
The Bat-Shark Repellent: Repels sharks.
Heel Propellers: Batman had them before Iron Man.
Fibre Cape: That uses electrical charge and helps him fly.
The Utility Belt: Has 10 cylinders with different weapons, a camera, a radio, and a place for his batarangs.
The Batpod: Batman's bike that steers with his weight. (Segway does that too!)
The Batmobile: Batman's ride that even scales vertical heights.
#15. Morgan Freeman said in a recent interview that actor Christian Bale would dance around on the sets wearing his Batman costume. Wish we could get to see that in the movie!
