Nokia To Unveil First Two Windows Phone 8 Handsets On September 5th?

Nokia’s first batch of Lumia devices – in particular the 800 and 900 – yielded much positive press coverage, most notably including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who is a big fan of the Lumia range and windows phone in general. As tech fans eagerly await the new windows phone 8 handsets, most of the attention will be focusing on what the Finnish company plans to bring to the table, and according to a report over at Chinese website WPDang, Nokia is to showcase the first two Windows Phone 8 handsets at Nokia world which falls on September 5th.
In spite of the rave reviews of both the Lumia 800 and 900, they are – from a hardware point of view – extremely weak when placed alongside the powerhouses of the smartphone world. This was, however, largely down to the restrictions of WP7.x, but with Windows Phone 8 offering support for dual-core devices, those looking for a smartphone able to perform well under pressure may finally consider Microsoft’s mobile platform as a viable option.
According to the WPDang report, the two new devices, which makes sense given the positive air surrounding the first few. The devices are expected to be called the Lumia 910 and 920, although besides the name, there’s no word on what the devices might look like or their tech specs. The only thing that does seem certain is that there will unfortunately be no PureView camera technology, which certainly impressed when demonstrated on the 808 PureView smartphone. That said, the mysteriousness about the devices will only add to the general interest, and if you’ve been watching the progress of Windows Phone 8 with more than a fleeting interest, then September 5th will be one for you to mark in your digital diary.
As well as showing off the new phones, WP8 fans could also be treated to further glimpses of the platform itself. WPDang speculates Microsoft – to which Nokia is very closely associated – will make an appearance at Nokia World, giving us an even closer look at WP8, which was first unveiled back in June.
Nokia has been the only company to sell any decent Windows Phone devices hitherto, so it’s no surprise to see the company first out of the blocks with WP8. Having said that, HTC, Huawei, and Samsung are also reported to be working on their own devices, so Microsoft’s platform could command a sizeable share of the market before too long.
Which features would you like to see with the Lumia 910 / 920?
